Poell, who was born in Austria in 1966, lives and works in Milan, where he started his clothing brand in 1995. He does not work within the classic fashion cycle but rather produces and shows when he feels like it. Poell, who has developed a cult around himself, is widely considered to be one of the most important and influential designers within the avant-garde and artisanal fashion world. Especially his use of leather and his tailoring are revolutionary and highly desirable among collectors.
This blazer is a great example for the latter. It is a one-buttoned, single breasted blazer, which is the cut that is hardest to create for a tailor. The fit is rather slim, with small lapels and two symmetrical front flap-pockets.
The individual Poell code is GM/2320 Richt/11. GM/2320 describes the model, so, in this case the one-buttoned blazer, Richt is the code for the fabric (100% Cotton) and 11 is the color, in this case a mid-grey.
As usual with pieces from Poell, there are myriad of other details to be discovered. The most prominent one are the signature pagoda shoulders, which are responsible for the unique cut of Poell Tailoring and the very subtle pattern on the fabric that gives it even more texture. As usual with the Austrian designer, the quality of the garment is exceptional. Basically everything is hand sown, from the lining to the collar and even the buttonholes.
