Cherevichkiotvichki was founded around 2010 by the self-taught shoemaker Victoria Andrejeva. The name of the brand roughly translates to "a shoe by Victoria" in Old Slavic.
Andrejeva, who is originally from Lithuania, now works in London although all of her pieces are handmade in Italy, in the region of Marche which is famous for its century-long production of leather. Products from the brand are famous for their exceptional quality. All of them are made with classic methods of shoe and leather making, like Goodyear or Blake stitching, which are arguably the best ways to manufacture shoes. Apart from that, the brand is also known for its unique materials and leather dyes as well as the combination of different textures.
Cherevichkiotvichki mainly produces leather shoes for women yet there are also men's pairs and some leather accessories. By now, there are also very small quantities of clothing.
The collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Andrejeva started with Yamamoto's Fall/Winter 2016 womenswear collection and has since then continued. Menswear came one season later, for the Spring/Summer collection 2017. The present shoes are from Yamamoto's Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Shoes from the collaboration are very rare and hard to find.
This pair is a modern (and unique) version of a classic derby, from which it borrows its approximate shape. The shoe is closed via a leather flap which is held in place by a button and/or the shoelaces which are meant to be wrapped around the shoes multiple times. The shoes have a unique used look in various shades of black and brown which perfectly matches the rugged aesthetic of the shoe.
