This sweater is from one of Rei Kawakubo´s most important collections, the Spring/Summer collection 2007, titled "Golden Boy". In this collection, Kawkubo prominently used the colour gold in various shades. Together with red, white and black, gold is one of the "Comme Colours", which are of great importance to Kawakubo. Within the collection, there was not only experimentation with shades of the colour but also with various textures and materials.

For this sweater, this can be found in the print on the front, which is made from a very unusual material. The cracks in the print are intentional and paired with a light glitter effect.

This whole piece is quite ironic. The already ironic statement "Golden Boy", is even further overstyled in gold and glitter. Thus, it is actually a statement against the mainstream fashion industry, in which everything is always golden and full of glitter. But as the old saying goes, all that glitters is not gold.
